Children’s Hospital Boston is a 377-bed comprehensive center for pediatric health care that records approximately 17,000 inpatient admissions each year, and has more than 160 outpatient programs and pediatric emergency services that care for more than 450,000 patients annually making it one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States . Additionally, the hospital performs 22,000 surgical procedures and 170,000 radiological examinations every year.

The Division of Gynecology at Children’s Hospital Boston has been in existence for more than three decades and is dedicated to providing females, from birth to age 22, with the highest quality medical care. Staffed by a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses and social workers, the practice focuses on the specialty of gynecology, which is the examination, diagnosis and treatment of female reproductive health issues. They are currently the busiest clinical program in pediatric and adolescent gynecology in the United States .

Children’s Hospital Boston is an outstanding educational resource for our residents with a strong base of referrals of complex cases involving congenital anomalies and high acuity pediatric and adolescent gynecology. Typical problems include pelvic pain, ovarian cysts and masses, endometriosis, congenital anomalies of the female reproductive tract, ambiguous genitalia, androgen insensitivity, and intersex disorders. Residents participate in pediatric and gynecologic surgery with Dr. Marc Laufer, an internationally recognized pediatric and adolescent gynecology specialist in the areas of congenital anomalies of the reproductive tract and endometriosis. Common surgeries include laparoscopy for diagnosis of pelvic pain and treatment of endometriosis, corrective surgery for congenital anomalies of the reproductive tract (e.g. excision of vaginal septum with vaginoplasty, hemihysterectomy for obstructed uterine horns, imperforate hymen excision), surgical repair of traumatic gynecologic injuries and ovarian cystectomies.

In addition to this surgical exposure and experience, there are strong educational opportunities in ambulatory adolescent and pediatric gynecology. This includes evaluation and treatment of labial adhesions, lichen sclerosis, pre-pubertal vaginal bleeding, ovarian cysts and tumors, pelvic pain and adolescent endometriosis, breast masses and tumors, gynecologic and reproductive issues for cancer patients/survivors, contraception, and sexually transmitted infections. The residents also learn counseling skills in complex psychosocial situations that affect the patients and the families of the patients who present to Children’s Hospital Boston. It is a unique opportunity to participate in and observe expert physicians counseling adolescents on a variety of problems including depressive disorders and suicidal impulses, anxiety disorders, physical and sexual abuse, family interactions and relationships, and psychological and sexual identity.

The Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital Integrated Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology prides itself in fostering an environment of inclusion and diversity. Applications Deadline

All applications must be completed and submitted to the program by no later than September 25, 2024, when the Dean’s Letter (MSPE) are released to the programs.

 

Interview Selection

All completed applications are reviewed by our selection committee. We are participating in program signaling and encourage applicants to utilize this to communicate your interest.  In accordance with ACOG guidelines we will send invitations to interview at our program on October 29, 2024 with rolling offers as needed.  We will allow 48 hours after interview invitation to accept or decline.  Your final applicant status (interview, reject, waitlist) will be released no later than November 27, 2024.

 

Interview Process

Our program interviews approximately 110 applicants each year. We have only two interview days, one Friday in November and one Friday in December. We offer two sessions per day, with Group A interviewing in the morning and Group B interviewing in the afternoon. Interviews will be conducted virtually using the ResidencyCAS platform.
